The wave of vitriol against Minnesota’s Somali community during the Trump administration’s continued nationwide immigration crackdown has been met with an opposing wave of solidarity.
The president said during a rally Tuesday that Somalia-born Rep. Ilhan Omar, a U.S. citizen since 2000, is in the country illegally and "should get the hell out."
President Donald Trump went on an anti-immigration tirade by calling Somalia “filthy.”
"When I think about Stephen Miller and his white supremacist rhetoric, it reminds of the way the Nazis described Jewish people in Germany," the Somali American congresswoman, who came to the U.S. as a refugee, told CBS' "Face the Nation."
“Why doesn’t it get called out? I think it would be called out even more if people weren’t afraid to criticize this president,” the former CNN host said.
"These Somalians have taken billions of dollars out of our country. They have destroyed Minnesota,” Trump said Wednesday.

"I can't imagine a clearer example of waste, fraud, and abuse than what ICE leadership has unleashed in neighborhoods across the Twin Cities," Omar wrote.
Trump said Americans are already seeing "lower prices" and "bigger paychecks" while frequently going off topic to expound on issues like windmills, trans people and Somalia.
